I’ve made this sweet and chewy granola recipe so often that I can rattle off the instructions without looking at the recipe card. It has become a staple in our house and a batch of it doesn’t last very long! This granola recipe was given to me by an old friend, but I adapted it a bit by accident..and I love it even more. It is a sweet and chewy granola, which makes it perfect to add to your favorite yogurt and to eat as a snack by itself.
There’s not much to it so I’ll save you the step by step instructions, but I will share a couple of tips before we get to the recipe. To make clean up easy, I cover the baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray with Pam. The granola comes off the sheet easily and you can just remove the foil…one less dish to wash! Be sure to use only old fashioned oats…you will be very sad if you use quick oats. Speaking from experience here!!
Following is the recipe! I know you will love it as much as we do!
Homemade Granola
Ingredients
- 4 cups old fashioned oats
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup honey
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350. Cover baking sheet (with sides) with aluminum foil and spray foil with cooking spray for easy clean up.
2. Mix oats, cinnamon and salt together in a large mixing bowl.
3. In a sauce pan, mix brown sugar, oil and honey together and stir on medium heat until sugar is disolved. *TIP: add oil before honey and use same measuring cup. Honey wont stick to measuring cup!
4. Pour brown sugar mix onto oats and coat completely.
5. Pour oats onto prepared baking sheet and spread out over pan.
6. Bake granola at 350 degrees for 10 min.
7. Remove from oven and let granola cool completely on baking sheet. Break granola into small pieces and store in an airtight container.
8. ENJOY!

I just made this and oh wow, delicious!!! I added cup of assorted goodness: chopped walnuts/almonds/pumpkin seeds and 1/2 cup coconut. I added 2/3 cup of mixed raisins/yellow raisins/dried cranberries to the mix when it came out of the oven. Once it cooled, I broke off a piece to ‘taste test’…..haha then I needed to put it away or I would have taste tested the entire tray 🙂 thank you for the recipe, it made it to my recipe binder!

Can the vegtable oil be changed out for caola oil?
Will it affect how the granola turns out?
Melinda Edwards says
Hi Christine! I have tried canola oil in place of vegetable and it did fine. I do think it gave it a slightly different taste, but still good!
