Fall Harvest Simmer Pot in a Jar

One of my favorite things each fall is putting a simmer pot on the stove and filling our home with the smell of fall! I love creating a simmer pot in a jar that I can just grab and put on the stove in a moments notice. Making a simmer pot in a jar is made with dried ingredients and stored in a mason jar. They make wonderful gifts as well! I shared a Christmas Morning simmer pot in a jar last year and it smells amazing. Be sure to save both for this holiday season!

Ingredients for Simmer Pot in a Jar

  • Dried orange slices
  • Dried apple slices
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Whole cloves
  • Pumpkin pie spice
  • Mason jar with lid (jelly or pint size)
  • Twine or ribbon
  • Fabric or parchment paper to cover lid
  • Tag with instructions if gifting

Drying the Fruit

I used the Weston 10 Tray Food Dehydrator to make the dried fruit for my jars. The Weston dehydrator made drying the fruit so easy. I cut the fruit about 1/4 inch thick and put them on the trays. I followed the instructions that came with the dehydrator and set the timer for 10 hours on 135 degrees. After 10 hours, the fruit slices came out perfect for simmer pot jars.

You can also dry the fruit in the oven. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees and put the fruit slices on a parchment lined baking sheet. Turn the fruit every 30 min and bake for 5-6 hours, checking the fruit frequently.

Assembling the Simmer Pot Jars

Once your fruit is dried, gather all the other ingredients and begin adding it to the mason jars. For jelly jars, I used the following quantities. For pint jars, you can add more!

  • 3 dried apple slices
  • 3 dried orange slices
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • Place some scrap fabric or parchment paper on top of the lid for decoration
  • Add some jute or ribbon with an extra orange and apple slice
  • Add a tag with instructions for the simmer pot if gifting

Simmer Pot Instructions

  • To use: place entire contents of jar into a small sauce pan. Fill with water to completely cover the dried ingredients and bring to a simmer. Continue to simmer adding additional water as needed!

How long can you store the finished simmering pot jar?

Hi! If stored in a ball jar with a lid I would say up to 6 months to a year using dried ingredients!

This week is my homemade granola, but make it into a strawberry Shortcake Yogurt Parfait using freeze dried strawberries! Just crush up some freeze dried strawberries and add in the granola. Give it a good mix to coat the granola. Add that to your favorite yogurt and top with white chocolate chips (I love the Lily’s sugar free). Remember the Good Humor strawberry shortcake bar? This takes just like it! Soooo good!

Homemade Turkey Breast Lunchmeat Once you try mak Homemade Turkey Breast Lunchmeat

Once you try making this homemade turkey breast lunch meat you will skip the deli and head straight for the frozen @butterballturkey!

The full directions for how to make turkey lunchmeat at home are below. Comment RANCH and I’ll send you my homemade ranch dressing too! It’s soooo good on a turkey bacon club!

Homemade turkey breast lunchmeat:
•one frozen 2-3lb turkey breast (thaw completely in fridge)
•oil of choice
•seasoning of choice (I used @kindersflavors cowboy butter
•2 tablespoons butter for each breast

Directions:
•Preheat oven to 400 F and preheat a seasoned cast iron skillet.
•Make sure turkey is completely thawed. Remove netting from turkey (breast may be in two pieces).
•Brush breasts with oil on all sides and season well.
•Place seasoned breasts in cast iron and sear 2-3 Min on all sides.
•Top with 2 tablespoons butter and place in preheated oven.
•About halfway through cooking the breasts, baste the turkey with the butter drippings in the bottom of the skillet.
•Cook on 400 for 45-60 min or until internal temp is 165.
•Remove from skillet and place on cutting board and slice into thin pieces if eating immediately. If you are wanting very thin deli style slices, wrap breast and allow to cool completely in fridge prior to slicing. This will allow you to cut very thin slices. Place in an airtight container in the fridge for lunchmeat throughout the week! #edwardsfarmstead #turkeybreastlunchmeat #turkeybaconclub #homemadelunchmeat
