This quick and easy homemade pasta sauce recipe is packed with juicy tomatoes and fresh herbs. The best part about this recipe is it you can make it in your own kitchen in 30 minutes!

Now that summer has come to an end, I am quickly trying to harvest and freeze the last of our garden tomatoes for winter. I love having canned and frozen tomatoes on hand to make homemade pasta sauce. There’s really just nothing like it!

How to Make Homemade Pasta Sauce

I love adding herbs like parsley, oregano and basil when freezing tomatoes to make homemade pasta sauce throughout the winter! Freezing tomatoes is also the easiest way to remove the skins prior to making sauce! Once thawed, the skins will peel right off! I used the the Weston Pro-1400 vacuum sealer this year and it made easy work of preserving my garden tomatoes in the freezer.

You can use fresh, frozen or canned tomatoes for this recipe! Use whatever you have on hand. Homemade pasta sauce (or marainara) is really very simple and with just a few simple ingredients you most likely have in your pantry, you can the best pasta sauce in under an hour.

Ingredients for Homemade Pasta Sauce

  • 2-3 lb frozen or fresh tomatoes without skins or 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 6oz can tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 4 tablespoons fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon dried or fresh oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried or fresh oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4th teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/3 cup finely diced onion

Instructions to Make Homemade Pasta Sauce

  • Place tomatoes, tomato paste, parsley, garlic, oregano, salt and pepper in a food processor or blender and blend until smooth.
  • Heat oil  in large sauce pan over medium heat, add onion and cook until softened.
  • Stir in tomato sauce mixture and simmer, stirring occasionally until thickened, roughly 30 min.
  • Add additional spices as needed per taste!

Making Pasta Sauce Ahead and Storing Tips

This recipe has not tested for canning, but you can make ahead and freeze! The steps to freezing this homemade pasta sauce are below:

  • Make the sauce as directed above and allow to cool.
  • Transfer the sauce into freezer save containers, ziplock bags or vacuum seal bags.
  • If using ziplock bags, lay the bags flat and slightly open one end of the bag to allow any air to escape and lay bags flat inside freezer.
  • Label the container with the date processed.
  • Use within 6 months.
  • To use the frozen pasta sauce, allow bag to thaw overnight in refrigerator and heat in sauce pan.

Final Thoughts

I hope you give this quick and easy homemade pasta sauce a try! Serve this sauce with your favorite pasta and try our Simple Cheesy Pull-Apart Garlic Bread!

✨Sharing easy family recipes, simple ways to celebrate the seasons & life on our Southern Indiana Farm!
✨Recipes, e-books and links👇🏻

I love this 2026 is the new 2016 trend! Back when I love this 2026 is the new 2016 trend! Back when Instagram was still in chronological order and everyone shared filtered photos!

It was fun looking back and remembering the year our first colt, Jet, was born on the farm. 2016 was the year I pulled my little trailer all across the Midwest to sell my jewelry. I went to a record 15 markets that year. How many of you were here for the Lil’ Red Mouse jewelry days??

It was also the first full year of having college kids and 2026 is the first full year with no college kids🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 (@edwardssophi graduated in December and we have officially paid our last tuition bill😭❤️)!

2016 was the year I shared my very first recipe on the blog and ironically it was the granola recipe I shared yesterday! Apparently…I shared a lot more of what I was wearing back then too…maybe I need to start doing more of that again🤔?

Thanks for taking a walk down memory lane with me! It’s been a wild and fun 10 years!
Comment GRANOLA and I’ll send the best homemade gr Comment GRANOLA and I’ll send the best homemade granola recipe to your DM’s! It’s sweet, chewy and so easy to make. It’s one of my husbands favorite snacks! Once you make this granola…you’ll never want the store bought stuff again!

I’ve included the full recipe below as well! Let me know if you give it a try❤️

Ingredients
4 cups old fashioned oats
1 tsp cinnamon
Pinch of salt
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup honey

Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350. Cover baking sheet (with sides) with aluminum foil and spray foil with cooking spray for easy clean up.

2. Mix oats, cinnamon and salt together in a large mixing bowl.

3. In a sauce pan, mix brown sugar, oil and honey together and stir on medium heat until sugar is dissolved. *TIP: add oil before honey and use same measuring cup. Honey wont stick to measuring cup!

4. Pour brown sugar mix onto oats and coat completely.

5. Pour oats onto prepared baking sheet and spread out over pan.

6. Bake granola at 350 degrees for 10 min.

7. Remove from oven and give the granola a little stir while still on the pan. This helps the granola to stay chewy and not get too hard and crunchy. Let granola cool completely on baking sheet.

8. Break granola into small pieces and store in an airtight container.

ENJOY!
