This quick and easy homemade pasta sauce recipe is packed with juicy tomatoes and fresh herbs. The best part about this recipe is it you can make it in your own kitchen in 30 minutes!

Now that summer has come to an end, I am quickly trying to harvest and freeze the last of our garden tomatoes for winter. I love having canned and frozen tomatoes on hand to make homemade pasta sauce. There’s really just nothing like it!

How to Make Homemade Pasta Sauce

I love adding herbs like parsley, oregano and basil when freezing tomatoes to make homemade pasta sauce throughout the winter! Freezing tomatoes is also the easiest way to remove the skins prior to making sauce! Once thawed, the skins will peel right off! I used the the Weston Pro-1400 vacuum sealer this year and it made easy work of preserving my garden tomatoes in the freezer.

You can use fresh, frozen or canned tomatoes for this recipe! Use whatever you have on hand. Homemade pasta sauce (or marainara) is really very simple and with just a few simple ingredients you most likely have in your pantry, you can the best pasta sauce in under an hour.

Ingredients for Homemade Pasta Sauce

  • 2-3 lb frozen or fresh tomatoes without skins or 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 6oz can tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 4 tablespoons fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon dried or fresh oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried or fresh oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4th teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/3 cup finely diced onion

Instructions to Make Homemade Pasta Sauce

  • Place tomatoes, tomato paste, parsley, garlic, oregano, salt and pepper in a food processor or blender and blend until smooth.
  • Heat oil  in large sauce pan over medium heat, add onion and cook until softened.
  • Stir in tomato sauce mixture and simmer, stirring occasionally until thickened, roughly 30 min.
  • Add additional spices as needed per taste!

Making Pasta Sauce Ahead and Storing Tips

This recipe has not tested for canning, but you can make ahead and freeze! The steps to freezing this homemade pasta sauce are below:

  • Make the sauce as directed above and allow to cool.
  • Transfer the sauce into freezer save containers, ziplock bags or vacuum seal bags.
  • If using ziplock bags, lay the bags flat and slightly open one end of the bag to allow any air to escape and lay bags flat inside freezer.
  • Label the container with the date processed.
  • Use within 6 months.
  • To use the frozen pasta sauce, allow bag to thaw overnight in refrigerator and heat in sauce pan.

Final Thoughts

I hope you give this quick and easy homemade pasta sauce a try! Serve this sauce with your favorite pasta and try our Simple Cheesy Pull-Apart Garlic Bread!

Welcome to my new series 12 Weeks of Christmas Candy! Come back each Friday for a new Christmas Candy treat and be sure to check out the past recipes as well!

Peanut Butter Balls
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
3 tablespoons butter (room temperature)
1 cup powdered sugar
Melting chocolate

In a mixing bowl stir together peanut butter and butter. Gradually add powdered sugar until combined. Using a teaspoon or small cookie scoop, roll mixture into balls and place on parchment paper. Melt chocolate and dip balls into chocolate, placing back on parchment to allow chocolate to harden. I like to drizzle with additional milk or white chocolate! This recipe will make approximately 12 balls. Enjoy!

Semi-homemade Chicken Pot Pie for the win🙌🏻! Semi-homemade Chicken Pot Pie for the win🙌🏻! I worked full time outside of the home for 17 years while my kids were little. Fast food wasn’t in the budget and dinner at home together was the best part of my day…so I came home at 5:30 or 6 and made dinner nearly every night! I had to get really creative at making quick and easy meals so we had a lot of semi-homemade things! Things we still make today! This chicken pot pie is one of our favorites! The full recipe is below! Let me know if you’d like to see more semi homemade meals for busy moms!!

Chicken Pot Pie:
1/3 cup butter
1/3 cup chopped onion
1/3 cup flour
1 1/2 cup chicken broth
2/3 cup milk
3 cups shredded chicken
2 cups frozen veggies (or 1 can mixed veggies)
@pillsbury (or any) refrigerated pie crust (2 pack)
Salt and Pepper to taste
*preheat oven to 425. Prepare a pie pan and bottom crust as directed. In sauce pan melt butter and add onion, cook until tender. Add flour and mix well. Pour in broth and milk stirring constantly until thick. Add in veggies (if using frozen I would steam first) and shredded chicken. Spoon mixture into pie plate and add top crust. Cut slits into top of crust. Bake on 425 for 30-40 min until golden brown. Let pie sit for 10 min to cool a bit before cutting. Enjoy!❤️

Brown sugar cake is easily our family’s favorite and most requested dessert! I love making these mini pumpkin cakes each fall from the same recipe. They are so cute and festive AND everyone gets their own little cake! I use a @bettycrocker yellow cake mix and it makes this cake so easy to make too. I hope you give this recipe a try and it becomes your family favorite too❤️!

Brown Sugar Cake:

1 box yellow cake mix
1 box vanilla instant pudding
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup water
1/2 cup oil
3 eggs

Mix all ingredients together with a hand mixer. Pour into a prepared bunt pan (I like to use Pam with flour). Bake on 350 for 1 hour for a regular Bundt pan…for the mini Bundt pan, bake for 30 min be sure they are cooked through by inserting a toothpick to see if it comes out clean. Cool cake completely before removing from pan. I like to sprinkle powdered sugar on mine! For the mini pumpkins, add a cinnamon stick in the center for the stem. Enjoy!!!
